Are You Selfie Ready?

Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and other social networking sites have ensured our presence everywhere. You can be seen in an instant by relatives in Canada, potential suitors in Gurgaon or even your old student now posted in New Zealand or Doha.

The fallout of the above is a heightened awareness of how we look. Every time the selfie click is heard – the first thought in a lot of people’s mind is – “Can this be my next facebook or whatsapp profile pic?” ðŸ™‚
Of course not everyone necessarily is that eager to keep changing profile pictures – but if you are honest with yourself – whenever you do post a picture – you do try to find your most flattering picture, don’t you? We all hate having our unflattering pictures plastered all over.
So what makes for a flattering beautiful picture? Is it flawless skin and a perfect set of teeth? Is an outfit or makeup? Is it the camera man’s talent or the lighting?
There is no doubt that all of the above contribute, but they are NOT a foolproof technique of ensuring a good picture.
Pick up a magazine, take a look at the television – what is it about a person that makes you look twice at them? What makes you turn around and take a second glance at a person? What makes a person stand out in a crowd?
It is their CONFIDENCE. Not arrogance, not pompousness. Just Confidence. A feeling which comes when you are comfortable in your own body. When you know your strengths, you are aware of your weaknesses and you know they are not the end of the world.
If you have questions about oral health, Call directly to best dentist in nagpur Or visit our dental clinic in nagpur.
Confident people know what is wrong with their bodies, faces, smiles and correct them if they can. If something cannot be corrected – they accept those flaws and love themselves.
  • Confident people get jobs and keep them.
  • Confident people do not worry about how to begin conversations.
  • Confident people are liked and admired.
Sparkling eyes, a healthy energy and a great smile go a long way in ensuring you are filled with confidence.
You shouldn’t need to leave your visiting/calling card anywhere. Your face is your calling card. People should remember you as the smiling, confident man/woman they met a year ago.
Work on your confidence. And it will work for you!

Do You Grind Your Teeth?

A lot of people grind their teeth…not just in anger or frustration….,but a pathological continuous grinding that occurs mostly during the night while they are asleep….This is a condition known as Bruxism…and people who suffer from bruxism are called bruxers.
Most bruxers don’t even know that they are bruxers. When asked if they grind their teeth they will in all probability answer in the negative. The only people who would know ( if at all) would be the person who sleeps next to them…the spouse perhaps… and that too only if they are light sleepers. If the spouse is easily awakened then many a time they are aware that a funny irritating clicking grinding sound is coming from the wife/husband at night.
Most people ignore this and even if told that they probably are bruxers they feel ‘ ” Big deal…so I grind my teeth. What’s that got to do with anything?”
Actually – a lot.
The signs of trouble may take a while in coming but come they will almost certainly. Unless, your teeth and jaws are made of iron which they aren’t. Maybe if you were a terminator but not otherwise.
Given a sufficient period of time without correct intervention you could end up with:
I. Worn down teeth
II. Chipped teeth
III. Fractured teeth
IV. Sensitivity with your teeth
V. Pain in the jaws/joints
VI. Muscular pain in your cheeks

What’s more even if you get restorations done and do not attempt to correct the original problem – the bruxism will even wear down restorations/crowns/bridges as can be seen in the next case.

Lots of factors are responsible for the beginning of bruxism:
1. High stress levels
2. Sleep disorders
3. Any kind of teeth maloccusion where teeth do not meet in harmony
4. Use of certain drugs
5. These and many other factors may be causing or aggravating the condition.

Bruxism is not completely understood. Neither is its treatment totally straightforward. What is definite though that the teeth and the jaws need to be protected from further trauma. It is not enough to just restore the broken, chipped teeth.
All patients of bruxism must wear nightguards/mouthguards. These are basically acrylic forms that are specific to each patient’s dentition. The patient simple has to slip it on while sleeping at night. There is no pain involved and no complicated wearing procedure. This simple treatment protects the teeth from wear and tear throughout the night.
Besides the mouthguard, the doctor will recommend some restorations if necessary. But a change in lifestyle and decreasing stress levels will certainly help.
“Above all things, I must not get angry. If I do get angry I knock all the teeth out of the mouth of the poor wretch who has angered me.”
   -Franz Schubert

Find out what is causing your stress and get rid of it. Of course not all reasons for stress can be gotten rid of. Your wife and her latest credit card bill is one of them ðŸ™‚

Dental Tourism And The Tiger Capital Of The World

Over several holidays/educational trips and the like over several years – we have come to one very simple conclusion. Dental treatment in select clinics in India now is at par with the globally accepted standard of care. Moreover – it’s cheaper and how! It’s no wonder then that India is the hot new hub of dental tourism.
On an average an implant procedure costing around 3000-5000 USD in the USA could potentially be had at around 700-1000 USD in India. That is approximately at one third or less. So imagine if you have 3-8 implants to be placed in your jaw. You could potentially save around 10000 USD minimum. This stands true not only for dental implants but for most other dental treatment procedures including root canal treatment, cosmetic procedures like veneers, bleaching and others.
So what would you do with the extra cash? You could use the money for a return air ticket to your place of interest in India, holiday, travel around the country, live in luxury hotels AND get your dental treatment done and still have money to spare for those new jeans you have been thinking of buying.
Located in the city of Nagpur, we’d imagine all wildlife/tiger fans making a beeline for what is being touted as the ‘Tiger capital of the world’ or ‘Gateway to Tigerland’. Among the many sanctuaries close to Nagpur are the Pench National Park, Tadoba National Park, Kanha National Park and a little further off Bandhavgarh National Park. The closest airport to most of these parks is Nagpur. There are 1411 tigers in India at last count with most of that number located in central India accessible from Nagpur.
Nagpur, being just over an hour away from Mumbai/New Delhi by air, is easy to reach. Being less expensive than either Mumbai/New Delhi or any other touristy place, Nagpur means that your dollar/euro can stretch much further travelling and treatment wise.
However a fair word of warning, ensure that you contact your Indian doctor/dentist by email before venturing to book anything. Does your research, plan well ahead, speak to the doctor and then go ahead.
A good dentist in nagpur does not mean 100 testimonials on their website or constant advertisements on Google ( though this is not an indication of a bad one either :)) Call the dentist or email him/her. Make sure you get the facts of your condition across and hear the complete treatment plan. Trust your instincts. But reserve your judgement till you have all the facts out in the open.
If you still like what you hear and see – Welcome to India and maybe even Nagpur for a happy holiday and a better smile.

Brace Yourself Part II

So now you have decided that you or your child would like to undergo treatment to correct the teeth alignment. Your head must be bursting with questions so let me try to answer a few as simply as possible.
WHAT IS ORTHODONTICS?

The process of straightening teeth with the help of an appliance ( wires etc) is called Orthodontics.
WHO REQUIRES ORTHODONTICS?
Any child or adult with teeth that are:
1. Crooked
2. Protruding
3. Irregular
4. With gaps in between
5. In the wrong bite
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?
It involves putting a wire/brackets on your teeth and regular visits ( once a month mostly) for tightening/changing the wire. Each sitting takes only 10-15 minutes.
HOW LONG WILL MY TREATMENT TAKE?
Treatment time depends on
1. Severity of Problem
2. Age of patient
3. Regularity of visits
4. Type of bone/pace of movement of teeth
5. The inclusion of chin caps/headgear or any myofunctional appliance treatment prior to braces
6. Teeth stuck deep in the jaw.
Therefore treatment time can vary between 1-3 years. On an average it takes about 16-18 MONTHS (1-1.5 years)
IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?
For the most part there is no pain or discomfort. However for a couple of days after the wire is tightened, you may experience mild to moderate discomfort easily borne or corrected with a mild painkiller.
WHY DO SOME PATIENTS HAVE TO EXTRACT TEETH AND SOME NOT?
Teeth removal is needed in patients where space is required to move the teeth and none is available. In certain cases this is avoided by expanding the jaws but many times this is not possible. The space created by the removal of teeth is closed during treatment by the movement of other teeth into the space. THIS IS NOT A PAINFUL PROCESS. Healing in children in particular is extremely fast compared to adults after tooth removal. Most children don’t even need painkillers beyond a day or two.
IS BRACES THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR ALL CASES?
Sometimes only a single tooth may be the problem and you can choose to forgo orthodontics and consider esthetic dentistry/smile designing with ceramics ( veneers etc). Also certain jaw malformations can only be treated by surgery. However your dentist will inform you if you fall into these categories.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRACES?
Yes. The very basic kind is metal and ceramic braces. The metal ones are the typical and most common type seen. The ceramic braces are tooth colored. Hence it is less obvious that you are undergoing treatment. Another kind is Lingual braces – The brackets are applied on the teeth from the tongue side – hence cannot be seen at all when you smile. The last kind is the one which is gaining popularity – INVISALIGN or CLEARALIGNER. Your treatment time and expenses will differ from the type of treatment you opt for.
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN DURING TREATMENT
Regular and proper brushing of teeth TWICE DAILY is a MUST to avoid cavities and gum disease.
Very sticky foods like chikki/Eclairs etc are to be avoided.
Foods like corn on the cob (Bhutta), popcorn, hard nuts/fruits, paani puri, non veg on the bone etc are to be avoided.
Regular checkups and scaling if required are a must.
PATIENCE!  PATIENCE!  PATIENCE!
Contact our dental clinic in nagpur, to schedule your consultation with Dr. Arya today is a highly qualified board certified Prosthodontist In Nagpur city, dedicated as an astute and experienced Dentist. Enjoy your life with straighter teeth!

The entire point of the treatment is to give you your best possible smile. The whole treatment goal is to make YOU look beautiful. Have the patience to get through it.

DO NOT BEGIN TREATMENT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE PATIENCE TO SEE IT TO COMPLETION.

Brace Yourself Part I

Right around the age of 8-9 years – the parents of the child start to worry about the alignment of the teeth.
Too Big?
Too Out?
Too many spaces?
Too much space???
Too toothy?

They ask themselves. Then ask their relatives. Then they ask the children themselves.
At that age – most children are blissfully unaware of how they look (ahhh now if only we could retain that self confidence all our lives)
So finally when their children show no interest or self consciousness the parents abandon the entire idea of braces till Boom!! Fast forward a few years…The child is now 16 and suddenly feels he/she has ugly teeth and a super ugly smile (This may not be the truth but that’s what the child feels)
That’s when the parents finally decide to see a dentist.
Now 16 is not late to align your teeth and age certainly is no hindrance nowadays – however the schedule of most kids these days are busier than most Heads of State and Cardiologists.
6 am – Tuition
8 am – breakfast
9 – 4 – School
5 pm – Basketball class
6 pm – Music class
7 pm – Tuition
9 pm – Collapse into bed
Sound familiar?
This schedule peaks right around the time the child passes 10th and does not stop then till they are safely ensconced in some medical or engineering college.
Therefore it becomes all the more imperative that any treatment begins much earlier.
Most Ortho cases last 14 months to 24 months. Hence the earlier the child is brought in (all factors being favorable) the faster treatment can begin and finish.
It is never too early to show your child to a dentist. Sometimes some corrective treatment is possible at a very early age thus reducing time for final treatment. Jaw growth etc is then able to be manipulated in case needed.
However, if you do fall in the category of the late realizers – never fear. Like we said – braces are possible at any age. You just need to find the time for the treatment.
Visit your dentist today.
Contact our best dentist in nagpur, to schedule your consultation with Dr. Arya today is a highly qualified board certified Prosthodontist In Nagpur city, dedicated as an astute and experienced Dentist. Enjoy your life with straighter teeth!
Consult. Discuss. And then finally come to a decision if treatment is needed and when would be the best time to start.
Work towards building your child’s confidence today.

Ballet and the Dentist CEREC

After you have practiced a few years – you begin to feel like – you have seen it all and done it all and the rest of the years are going to pass in the same repetitive manner. And then along comes something like CEREC to jolt you right out of that melancholy. The clinic’s CEREC AC and OMNICAM arrived a few days back and it was like Christmas had come early this year.

All the doctors at the clinic were like kids left alone at a toy store. The first restoration was designed and milled yesterday and when you see for yourself that restoration being created out of a block of nondescript ceramic in 4 min flat – you suddenly begin to feel a whole new energy course through you. Like you are a fresh pass out – just out of dental school and ready to take on the world.
And forget the doctors – the effect on the patient is incredible too. The first CEREC patient at the clinic could barely contain his glee as the OMNICAM just scanned his teeth and reproduced a digital image on the computer screen. The elimination of physical impressions and all the putty in the mouth is just one of the many things patients would be happy to be rid of.

But when Mr X saw his restoration being milled by the CADCAM machine right in front of him in such a sophisticated manner – he was just blown away.

If you have questions about oral health, Call directly to best dentist in nagpur Or visit our dental clinic in nagpur.

In a profession which is projected to the general public as a world of injections, discomfort, multiple appointments, terrible tasting materials and a yawn fest – CEREC is like watching a ballerina levitate across a stage. Movements requiring such precision and strength yet performed with such elegance that it draws your eyes and stirs your soul.

Treat yourself to a ballet performance. Get a CEREC restoration.

Bad Breath – The Worst PR Manager!!

Have you tried in vain to keep a straight face while your Boss is ‘killing you softly’ with his breath which smells of rotten eggs?

Or you have decided to go without kissing your spouse rather than rock the marital boat by telling him/her that they smell like a chemical experiment gone terribly wrong?

Have you been at the receiving end or worse still – are you the perpetrator of the crime?

Frankly – it may not be your fault at all.  You probably haven’t had the opportunity to be educated about the possibilities of treatment. Bad breath is a condition just like any other disease – its cause requires to be diagnosing properly and treated accordingly.

People’s perception of bad breath have made mouthwash and chewing gum companies – multi multi billionaires!!!  Even toothpaste companies advertisements focus on propagating the ‘fresh breath’ aspect rather than the clean teeth bit! Unfortunately – most mouthwashes and mints are only cosmetic and not therapeutic. Simply put – they will only mask your bad odor and not eliminate the cause. Since they are only masking the odor – they act much like the foundation and cosmetics on skin – it only masks the blemishes underneath and does not get rid of them.

So what really causes bad mouth odor???

The causes are divided between those to be found in the mouth and those that are extra oral.

The intra Oral causes are:

1. Poor oral hygiene
2. Deposits on the teeth
3. Deep cavities in your teeth which act as a food trap
4. Coated tongues (when you do not clean your tongue everyday)
5. Gum disease
6. Dry mouth
7. Dentures

The causes of bad odor that is extra oral (rest of the body) are:
1. Throat infections and colds
2. Sinusitis/tonsillitis
3. Lung diseases
4. Some liver and kidney diseases
5. Diabetes
6. A few other systemic conditions

The above are just some of the causes. There are more. Almost all of the causes within the mouth can be treated and most of those outside the mouth too.
Sometimes all you will require is a professional tooth cleaning (scaling), correct tooth brushing technique demonstration and a nudge to take better care of your dental health. Do you think it makes sense to suffer a lifetime of self consciousness just because you are scared/ashamed or hesitant to get professional help from a dentist?

If you have questions about oral health, Call directly to best dentist in nagpur Or visit our dental clinic in nagpur.

And even if you need more treatment than the above because the cause is more complicated – wouldn’t you want to know?

Bad breath is a deal breaker. Why keep it so close to you at the cost of you losing potential relationships, being made fun of by friends,  or maybe even be passed up for a promotion?

Bad Breath is much like body odor – it is an instant turn off. So instead – you can turn bad breath off.

Find the cause and eliminate it. And maybe then – like those ads on TV – you could make a heart on the fresh breath that you blow onto a glass window when you see the love of your life

Are You One Of Those People Who Keeps Covering Their Mouth With Their Hands Whenever They Smile

You really are not the only one. And even if you do not do that – you definitely know someone who does.

The reason – Too conscious of teeth which are protruded or discolored or have spaces between them…,

All so easily treated.

A little lady walked in – with spacing in the upper front teeth. She wanted to be rid of them…and soon!

On a closer look we realized that not only she had spaces between her teeth, the teeth were not shaped normally and one tooth was missing congenitally.
We explored possibilities for treatment and found given the time limit ( she had 1 week) , Porcelain veneers were the best option. We also advised her depigmentation procedure for her blackened gums but she decided to defer that for a later date.

Porcelain veneers can correct –
  • 1. Spaces between teeth
  • 2. Imperfections in tooth positions
  • 3. Discolored teeth
  • 4. Worn/oldish looking teeth
  • 5. Fractured teeth
  • 6. And a few other things…..
She came in with a self-conscious smile- and a week later went out feeling like a million bucks because of a brand new smile…..

Now if only other things took only that shorts a while to fix, we’d all be the ideal weight and height

Choose A Better Smile

Have you received the best treatment possible?
This is a question every patient must ask themselves.

When we talk about the best treatment possible – we don’t mean whether your dentist did a wonderful RCT or a beautiful crown. What we mean is – Did your dentist see your potential? Did he inform you of everything that COULD be done instead of only what SHOULD be done?
If you have questions about oral health, Call directly to best dentist in nagpur Or visit our dental clinic in nagpur.
A lot of dental practitioners have blinkers on – just like horses. You tell them you have a tooth hurting and all they see is THAT tooth. There may be stains and tartar all over your mouth which could be easily removed. There may be crooked teeth which could be straightened. There may be big gaps between teeth which could be corrected.
But all they see is THAT ONE TOOTH which they will treat. And you will leave the clinic happy in your ignorance. There could have been so much more done to improve your teeth – health wise and cosmetic value wise.
So in case your dentist is one of those people – YOU take charge. Ask him or her to look at your mouth as a whole. Request him to tell you what is wrong and what is not. What can be improved and what cannot. Then choose. You may choose not to do anything at all or you may like to change a lot of things.
Grasp that power of choice. Make informed decisions.
“We cannot become what we need to be, remaining what we are.”
 - Max Depree
